What does it mean to live thoughtfully? I think about this often in regards to ethical fashion as it drives the core mission of Raven + Lily to empower women through design. This past year I started applying this in our family lifestyle as we decided to radically embrace the tiny house movement and living in nature. And this holiday season, I’m going to think of what it means to really live thoughtfully and give thoughtfully in all the ways we celebrate.
Full confession: as I sit down to write about the theme of our “Live Thoughtfully” holiday campaign, I’m feeling overwhelmed from a busy and stressful week. Today we launched our beautiful holiday collection (featuring the lovely Shay Mitchell), and I’m about to hop on a plane to Africa to visit seven artisan partnerships. And at Green Acres, our boutique retreat and homestead, we are expecting dozens of guests from all over the nation to join us for a holiday glamping experience in our yurts in the coming weeks. In one sense this is all very exciting, but in another sense it’s totally overwhelming.
The stress I felt today seemed like a precursor to what may lie ahead this holiday season unless I take the reins and slow down. Even with a full plate, I’m committed to approaching the holidays with thoughtfulness and gratitude. I’ll be sharing my journey with you as I savor the experiences of each day, attempt to love the people in my life well, enjoy the beauty that surrounds me, and intentionally practice gratitude.
This is an overflow of my conviction that each new day of life is a gift, and we should treat it as such. Raven + Lily seeks to honor people and the planet with every decision we make and product we produce. I hope the ideas I share will inspire you to have a truly thoughtful and meaningful holiday season that leaves you deeply refreshed and satisfied.
On our “Live Thoughtfully” journey, we’ll explore what it means to travel thoughtfully, entertain thoughtfully, decorate thoughtfully, dress thoughtfully, and give thoughtfully. I’ve invited various members of the Raven + Lily team to share what living thoughtfully means to them. While in Africa, I will be asking our artisans the same question. I can hardly wait to share these responses. I’m sure they will be beautiful and inspiring.
My deepest desire is for you to have practical tools that will equip and encourage you to be creative and thoughtful this holiday season. Don’t wait until January 1 to slow down and make resolutions. Let’s resolve to live thoughtfully right now and experience a truly happy and fulfilling holiday season.
